The Gifted Children Left BehindIn a recent op-ed in The Washington Post, Susan Goodkin and David Gold wrote, "In adopting the No Child law, Congress finally addressed the shameful neglect of students in failing schools, particularly inner-city schools. For parents, their children are everything, and the quality of education is a top priority. For taxpayers and society, there isn't a more important investment to make in the future than building world-class schools. There's a lot of talk about how to make schools better. But how? It seems like there are countless studies, often saying totally different things. And politicians, bureaucrats and people with strong ideologies push and pull our schools in every direction. Often, it's the people with the loudest voices who win out, and not always for the best. We're a new organization that is out to make things a little simpler for parents and taxpayers. While we don't know all the answers, there are things that most experts agree on for making schools the best they can be. We think someone ought to at least be advocating for the simple things that work. We're advocating real education solutions. |
